Real Diamond Plate. Raised Knobs. Flat Back. Three Thicknesses.
These are not embossed sheets. Heavy duty aluminum diamond plate is manufactured with genuine raised diamond knobs — solid, three-dimensional projections formed directly into the aluminum — giving you a flat, smooth back surface and a true diamond plate face that is stronger, more durable, and more visually authentic than the embossed alternative. Every sheet is made from 3003 aluminum alloy with an anodized bright polished (mirror) finish and ships with a peel-off PVC protective film applied to the face. Leave the film on during transport and installation. Peel it off when you are done and the finish underneath is pristine.
If you are not sure whether you need heavy duty or standard diamond plate, or what the difference is between embossed and raised knob construction, scroll down — we cover all of it below.
Which Thickness Is Right for Your Project?
This is the question most customers have before they order. Here is a straight answer for each gauge:
.045" (3/64") Thick — The Most Popular Heavy Duty Sheet
The .045" sheet is our best-selling heavy duty option and the right choice for the vast majority of wall, wainscoting, and trailer applications. It has all the visual impact and durability of genuine raised-knob diamond plate at the most accessible price point, and it is the easiest of the three gauges to cut, bend, and work with. The flat back sits flush against walls and framing without shimming or adjustment.
Cutting: The .045" sheet can be cut on-site using the OnlineDiamondPlate.com swivel-head electric hand shear — the same tool recommended for our .025" standard sheets. No grinder or metal cutting wheel required. Clean, fast cuts with no blade changes.
Choose .045" for: garage walls, trailer walls and ceilings, mudrooms, wainscoting, fitness centers, restaurants, mechanical rooms, and anywhere you want the look and durability of real diamond plate without overbuilding for the application.
.063" (1/16") Thick — Maximum Thickness for Wall Panel Trim Compatibility
The .063" sheet is significantly more robust than .045" and is the thickest gauge compatible with OnlineDiamondPlate.com aluminum trim moldings, seam covers, and corner guards. If a clean, finished edge with matching aluminum trim is important to your installation, .063" is your maximum thickness. It is also the most versatile heavy duty gauge — capable of serving as a premium wall panel while also handling fabrication, flooring, and custom project work that would flex or dent a thinner sheet.
Cutting: The .063" sheet requires a grinder or metal cutting wheel for on-site cuts. The swivel-head hand shear is not rated for this thickness. Plan your cuts before installation and use appropriate eye and hearing protection.
Choose .063" for: premium wall panels and wainscoting, custom fabrication, light flooring applications, trailer interiors, and any project where you want trim-compatible edges and extra rigidity.
.125" (1/8") Thick — Structural Grade Diamond Plate
At 1/8" thick, the .125" sheet is a different category of material entirely. This is structural aluminum diamond plate — the gauge specified for stairs, trailer flooring, ramps, platforms, and any application where the diamond plate itself is a load-bearing or high-impact surface. A 4'x8' sheet weighs 60.8 lbs, and working with it requires planning around that weight. It will not work with standard aluminum trim moldings — use our custom seam covers and corner guards for edge finishing on .125" wall installations.
Cutting: The .125" sheet requires a grinder or metal cutting wheel for all on-site cuts. This is heavy structural material — use the right tool, secure the sheet firmly before cutting, and use full eye, hearing, and hand protection.
Choose .125" for: stairs, trailer floors, ramps, platforms, equipment pads, industrial flooring, and any structural or high-load application where maximum aluminum diamond plate strength is required.

Heavy Duty vs. Standard Diamond Plate — What Is the Difference?
This is the most common question we get, and it matters for your purchase decision.
Heavy duty diamond plate (.045", .063", .125") is manufactured with genuine raised diamond knobs — solid projections formed directly into the aluminum. The back of the sheet is completely flat and smooth. This is traditional, structural diamond plate used in commercial and industrial applications for decades.
Standard diamond plate (.025" and .032") is made using an embossing process that stamps the diamond pattern into a thinner sheet. Both sides show the pattern — the front raised, the back recessed. Some customers describe embossed sheets as "not real" diamond plate. The distinction is manufacturing method, not quality — our .025" embossed sheets are actually our best-selling product overall. They are lighter, easier to install, less expensive, and perfectly suited for the vast majority of wall and wainscoting applications. For most customers who are not doing structural or heavy-impact work, standard sheets are the smarter and more economical choice.
Not sure which to choose? Start with the standard .025" sheets for walls and wainscoting. Move up to heavy duty if your application involves significant impact, structural load, trailer use, or if you want the thicker, more substantial feel and construction of raised-knob diamond plate.
Custom Cut to Size
All three heavy duty thicknesses are available cut to your exact dimensions using our industrial 10-foot shear. Custom cutting is available at an additional charge. Before ordering a custom cut, please note the following:
- Straight 90-degree cuts only. Our shear makes clean, precise cuts across the full width of the sheet. Notched cuts, angled cuts, radius cuts, and cutouts cannot be made — these require on-site fabrication using a grinder or metal cutting wheel.
- Maximum sheet length is 8 feet on all gauges.
- Custom cut sheets are non-returnable. Confirm your dimensions carefully before ordering.
- Contact us before placing your order if you have questions about whether your cut can be accommodated on our shear.

Shipping — Important: Read Before Ordering
All heavy duty aluminum diamond plate sheets ship via ground freight LTL common carrier. We route each shipment through the most cost-effective carrier available at time of order — typically Old Dominion, FedEx Freight, TForce Freight, or ABF Freight. Sheets are crated for protection during transit. Crates are typically approximately 100" in length, which exceeds the length limit for liftgate delivery service.
Your delivery address must have one of the following:
- A loading dock, or
- A forklift on site to unload from the freight truck
If your delivery address does not have dock or forklift access, select carrier terminal pickup at checkout. We will route your order to the nearest freight terminal location for you to pick up at your convenience with an appropriate vehicle. Contact us before ordering if you have any questions about delivery requirements for your address.
